The Erasmus+ DiaSHOE project is to launch a training programme for healthcare professionals

After the last meeting at TUIASI University in Romania, the partners of the Erasmus+ DiaSHOE project agreed to launch the piloting of a training programme on footwear, aimed at health professionals and assistants in orthopaedic and shoe shops. This programme aims to become a key tool in the prevention of complications in the diabetic foot.

The partners of the Erasmus+ DiaSHOE project gathered at the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi. The Portuguese Footwear Technological Centre (CTCP), as coordinator of the project, as well as the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi (TUIASI), the Czech Footwear and Leather Association (COKA), the Polish e-learning solutions company Globalnet, the European Footwear Confederation (CEC) and the Spanish Footwear Technology Centre (INESCOP) participated in the meeting.

DiaSHOE is a project focused on the relationship between the diabetic foot syndrome, which many diabetic patients are suffering from, and the footwear used by these patients.

The aim is to guide footwear manufacturers in the design and manufacture of products for people living with diabetes. In addition to manufacturers, another target group of DiaSHOE is health professionals and assistants in shoe shops and orthopaedic shops who will be trained on the properties that adequate footwear should feature in order to prevent complications in diabetic feet. The third target group addressed by this project are the patients themselves and their relatives, who will be informed about the importance of using footwear that is suitable for their needs.

"The positive feedback obtained by the target audience of the DiaSHOE project is the result of the great work carried out by each of the partners", underlined the project coordinator, Rita Souto.

Launch of the training programme

The consortium has approved in TUIASI the start of the training programme developed by the project partners aimed at professionals and assistants in orthopaedic shops and shoe shops. The content will be available on the e-learning platform 'Los Globos' from November as a tool to prevent complications in the diabetic foot.

“We are working to ensure that the results of the DiaSHOE project have a positive impact on our 3 target groups: footwear manufacturers, healthcare professionals and patients. Now, thanks to the results obtained after the piloting of the first training programme, we can confirm that we are on the right track”, stated the project manager of the Erasmus+ DiaSHOE project at INESCOP, Gloria Chorro.
