SYL consortium meets in Mongolia to head towards the project end
On 5th and 6th November, the partners of the SYL consortium, "Capacity building to the Mongolian Vegetable Tanned Yak Leather Cluster on bio-leather and bio-leather products", held the third Project Steering Committee meeting in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) near the end of the third year of implementation.
During the annual meeting of the SYL project, held at the headquarters of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the partners shared the interim results achieved by the project. A meeting held in the Mongolian capital where the main milestones achieved to date have been reviewed, as well as the work plan for the fourth and last year of the project.
In the context of this annual meeting, Esperanza Almodóvar, INESCOP’s SYL Project Manager and Head of International Relations, presented the results and conclusions of the activities completed or still in progress during this third year of work, which are led by the technology centre:
• Guidance and training to facilitate adherence to Leather Working Group certification and the optimisation of the sustainability of the vegetable tanned yak leather value chain.
The partners also had the opportunity to meet, for the first time in person, the Programme Manager of the European Union Delegation in Mongolia, Mr Byambaragchaa Magvandoj, who congratulated the participants on their achievements and encouraged them to continue giving visibility to the activities carried out.
Throughout these five days Mateu gave different sessions on key concepts of sustainability that affect the leather products and tanning industries in Mongolia that wish to export their products to Europe. The face-to-face training was supplemented with online sessions given by a certified auditor on the procedures and requirements that companies must meet to qualify for the Leather Working Group certification, an international certification specific to the leather sector.
The SYL project partners have set a date for the last meeting to be held in Mongolia, in the last third of 2025, which will be jointly organised with the final conference to disseminate the results achieved s by this project.
